My name is Prathik Bathija, and It's my privilege and pleasure to be serving as the President of the United Nations Human Rights Council at the 6th edition of the Hindustan Young Leaders Conference.
Just as many of you, I started my MUN journey as a delegate, clueless about the impact of such a conference. Over the course of my journey, Model UN conferences have taught me to challenge status quo by arriving at a holistic understanding, collaborating with peers and articulating my thoughts with facts and logic.
Technologies with a transformative potential such as the Internet brings with them both opportunities and challenges. It mandates complex balancing between fundamental rights and principles, including freedom of expression and the defence of human dignity. This year, the United Nations Human Rights Council would be deliberating upon countering incitement to hatred online and offline.
As the President of the council, I commit to my duties of facilitating debate, upholding the rules of procedure and delivering impartial judgment. It is up to the delegates themselves to guide the council towards an amicable solution.I welcome you all, and I wish you all the best!
